Nuggets fall to Clippers on the road 2024

The Denver Nuggets experienced a narrow defeat against the LA Clippers, falling short by a mere two points with a final score of 102-100 in Thursday night's matchup. With this loss, Denver's season record now stands at 53-24, securing them the second spot in the Western Conference standings.

Reflecting on the game, head coach Michael Malone emphasized that while the outcome was disappointing, it wasn't due to a lack of effort. He stressed the need for the team to maintain intensity throughout the entire 48 minutes of play.

Nikola Jokić showcased an outstanding performance for Denver, contributing 36 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. This remarkable display marked his 129th career triple-double, placing him just nine triple-doubles behind Magic Johnson for the third spot on the all-time leaderboard. Malone praised Jokić's unwavering determination, highlighting his refusal to back down from challenges.

Christian Braun also made notable contributions with 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists during his 34 minutes on the court. Malone commended Braun's reliability and resilience, acknowledging his significant impact on the team's dynamics.

On the opposing side, Paul George led the Clippers with 28 points, shooting 10-of-21 from the field.

Denver's bench struggled, being outscored 34-9, primarily due to the combined efforts of Russell Westbrook and Norman Powell, who contributed 23 points collectively.

The first half saw Jokić's dominance, as he amassed 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. He effectively challenged Clippers' center Ivica Zubac, exploiting his defensive weaknesses both inside and outside the paint. Despite Jokić's stellar performance, the Clippers held a slim 53-49 lead at halftime.

However, Denver's offensive momentum dwindled in the third quarter, resulting in only 21 points scored. Meanwhile, Paul George found his stride, propelling the Clippers forward with 9 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

In the fourth quarter, Jokić delivered an exceptional performance, tallying 12 points along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Nevertheless, the Clippers capitalized on numerous free-throw opportunities, securing a two-point lead. Despite a last-ditch effort from Jokić with a 31-foot heave at the buzzer, Denver fell short of overturning the deficit.
